OPEN BAND/Mic contra dance (VMH) – band led by Jim Oakden & Valerie Rose

Mar 8, 2020 update: This dance is ON!

We are keeping an eye on the situation in Santa Cruz and do not think that cancellation of tonite’s dance is warranted. In these difficult times, maintaining the fabric of our community is more important than ever.
Local information on COVID-19:

http://santacruzhealth.org/HSAHome/HSADivisions/PublicHealth/CommunicableDiseaseControl/Coronavirus.aspx

We do ask that you do not attend if any of the following applies to you:
– You have any flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
– You returned from travel in the last 3 weeks.
– You live in an area with sustained local transmission
– You have had close physical contact with a person currently under investigation for COVID-19, or whom is a confirmed case of COVID-19
Information that I have found useful:
Wash your hands often with soap for more than 20 seconds, and try not to touch your face.

About Our Contra Dances

Everyone is welcome! Partners and dancing experience are not necessary. Each of the dozen or so dance forms during the evening are taught and prompted (except for the waltz and hambo).

TDSC dances are called using gender-neutral (Larks/Robins) role terms unless otherwise noted. Everyone is welcome to dance either/both roles. Learn more.

Beginner’s Workshop:  new dancers are encouraged to attend the beginner’s lesson at 5:30. Regular dancing begins at 6:00 (dances can get more complex as the night goes on).

Admission: Suggested admission donation is $12 regular, $20 for supporters, $8 for full-time students w/student ID card.  Cash or check only.

Wear: Comfortable, non-marking shoes to protect your feet and our floors – a separate pair of dance shoes works best. You’ll be more comfortable in loose-fitting light-weight clothing.

Bring a water bottle!

Please note that many dancers are very sensitive to fragrances and body odor and that our dances are fragrance-free events (read more).
